Life Rejoiced
Have you ever noticed the way the sun shines through the leaves of a tree on a summer morning? The green light shimmers and glows. It’s such a small thing, but a reminder of God’s power and creativity and glory. A reminder that He is ever worthy of our praise.
We sing praises to God because He deserves our adoration. He is Savior, Healer, Redeemer. He is the hope in a broken world.
And yet, in one of my favorite Bible verses of all, God tells us how much He rejoices over us.
Zephaniah 3:17 says, “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
I’ve never been able to wrap my mind around this verse. The Creator of the world, the one who put the stars in the sky and painted the galaxies, the one who orchestrates the sunlight as it shimmers through the trees… He takes great delight in us? He rejoices over us and our messy lives with singing?
That’s incredible. God deserves our adoration and our songs, but we don’t deserve His. It seems so backwards.
Yet, before we are even born, while we know nothing but our own selfish desires, God rejoices over our existence with song.
What would it be like to hear Jesus singing? What kinds of songs would He sing? What does the Creator’s voice sound like?
Here’s an exercise: imagine your favorite singer, the one who has the best voice you’ve ever heard. Imagine some of his or her songs. Imagine the beauty of their raw, pure voice.
God, the one who rejoices over your life with singing, created that voice. How much more powerful and beautiful is His voice? This exercise proves itself futile, because His songs are more than what we can imagine.
Even though we are broken people in a broken world, God rejoices over us with unimaginably beautiful singing.
We are His masterpiece. God delights over His creation. He is with us, He saves us, and as He watches us work through this crazy thing called life, He rejoices because we are His.
I think that’s pretty incredible.
And never forget… you are onederfully created.
Love,
Becca
